About Ravencoin Mining

Ravencoin (RVN) launched in January 2018 as a fork of Bitcoin focused on asset transfer. Its X16R algorithm randomly rotates through 16 SHA-based hashing algorithms depending on the last 8 bytes of the previous block hash. This rotation pattern makes ASICs economically impractical to build.

X16R hash rates are lower than algorithms like Ethash because the algorithm is more computationally varied. The RTX 3080 achieves approximately 30–35 Mh/s on X16R, compared to ~98 Mh/s on Ethash.

FAQ

What algorithm does Ravencoin use?
X16R — a chained algorithm that sequences through 16 different hash functions in an order determined by each block's previous hash.

Can you mine Ravencoin with an ASIC?
No practical Ravencoin ASIC exists. The random algorithm rotation makes ASIC design non-viable, keeping mining accessible to GPU miners.

Best GPU for mining Ravencoin?
Any modern NVIDIA or AMD GPU works well. The RTX 3080 (~30 Mh/s) and RTX 4090 (~40 Mh/s) lead on raw hash rate. Mid-range cards like the RTX 3070 (~25 Mh/s) offer good efficiency per watt.
