Is the RTX 3080 Still Profitable?

The RTX 3080 launched at $699 in September 2020 and became the most-deployed gaming card of the Ethereum mining era. Its 10 GB of GDDR6X memory and strong efficiency-per-watt made it the de-facto baseline for mid-tier mining rigs. After the Merge it has retained relevance on Etchash, Kaspa, and Ergo where 10 GB is plenty of headroom.

Among consumer GPUs, the 3080 has one of the best efficiency curves for KHeavyHash — its 1.7 Gh/s at 225W beats most cards on Mh per Watt. At $0.06/kWh and lower, the 3080 still pays for itself running 24/7 on Kaspa.

FAQ

Is the RTX 3080 still profitable for mining in 2026?
On low-electricity ($0.05-$0.08/kWh) setups, yes — particularly on Kaspa (KHeavyHash) and Ethereum Classic. Above $0.15/kWh, profitability narrows to break-even on most coins.

RTX 3080 vs RTX 3090 for mining?
The 3090 hashes 20-30% higher per algorithm but at higher power and 2× the original cost. For pure $/MH/year ROI, the 3080 is harder to beat.

How many watts for RTX 3080 mining?
Stock TGP is 320W. Power-limit to 215-235W for the best efficiency curve — most miners run 225W on KHeavyHash and Etchash.

Can the RTX 3080 mine Bitcoin?
No. Bitcoin uses SHA-256 which is dominated by ASICs (Antminer S19/S21). The 3080 is a GPU and would produce vanishingly small daily revenue on SHA-256.
